Consultancy on demand

Senior consultants, matched to the problem, not the job description.

A bench of senior operators across finance, blockchain, agriculture, engineering and product, working from Morocco, France, Spain, Belgium and China. You brief us on the problem. We put two to six people on it who have solved that exact problem before.

What we do

Nine practices. Every one led by someone who has done the job.

We assemble a small squad around one problem and take it apart when the outcome lands. Nobody stays on an engagement to protect a utilisation number.

  • 01 / Finance

    Financial systems & risk

Core banking replacements and treasury automation, on balance sheets where the regulator gets a vote.

  • 02 / Blockchain

    Blockchain & tokenisation

On-chain architecture and contract review. Most of this work is tokenised real-world assets rather than anything speculative.

  • 03 / Engineering

    Software & product

Full-stack squads that work inside your repositories, your standups and your release process. Not alongside them.

  • 04 / Data & AI

    Data, ML & applied AI

Warehouse through to shipped feature. We build evaluations before we build models, which slows the first month and saves the sixth.

  • 05 / Agritech

    Agritech & supply chains

Traceability and yield systems for producers and aggregators, usually where connectivity is the hard constraint.

  • 06 / Security

    Security & compliance

Penetration testing, identity overhauls, SOC 2 readiness. Aimed at teams who cannot pause shipping to do it.

  • 07 / Cloud

    Cloud & platform

Landing zones and platform engineering on AWS, Azure, GCP or a sovereign cloud if the data cannot leave the country.

  • 08 / Strategy

    Digital strategy & PMO

Roadmaps written to survive a board meeting, and the embedded programme office that keeps them honest afterwards.

  • 09 / Design

    Product design & research

Discovery through rollout. Service design when the problem turns out to be the process rather than the interface.

Sectors

We only take work in sectors we have already lived in.

Each practice is led by a partner who spent years inside the industry before joining the bench. That is the whole reason the diagnosis phase takes a week rather than a quarter.

  • 01

    Banking & finance

Retail, corporate and Islamic finance. Treasury operations.

  • 02

    Web3 & fintech

Exchanges, payments rails, tokenised assets, stablecoins.

  • 03

    Real estate

Proptech platforms, digital leasing, fractional ownership.

  • 04

    Agriculture

    Cooperatives, provenance tracking, precision farming.

  • 05

    Logistics & supply

Port operations, fleet, last mile, customs digitisation.

  • 06

    Public sector

Citizen portals, digital identity, tax platforms.

  • 07

    Retail & CPG

Omnichannel, loyalty schemes, merchandising, point of sale.

  • 08

    Energy & utilities

Grid analytics, renewables operations, smart metering.

How we engage

Four weeks in, you will have something running.

No ninety-day discovery report. We diagnose in a week, prove it in three, and you decide at that point whether there is a second month.

  1. 01Week 1

    Diagnose

A week on site. We map the problem, the politics around it, and whatever the real measure of success turns out to be. It is rarely the one in the brief.

  2. 02Week 1

    Match

We compose the squad from the bench. Two to six people, chosen for domain fit before stack fit. You meet all of them before anyone starts.

  3. 03Weeks 2 to 4

    Prove

A three-week sprint against one measurable outcome. If it does not move, you do not extend, and you owe nothing beyond the sprint.

  4. 04Month 2 onward

    Hand over

We hand to your team, stay embedded, or step back to a fractional arrangement. Reviewed every quarter, cancellable at each review.

The firm

A head office in Marrakech, and a bench that is not in it.

Our consultants live in five countries and take work worldwide. On most engagements that means someone senior is already in your timezone, already holds the right to work where you are, and does not need a visa to attend the kick-off.

Three engagements, described as far as our NDAs allow.

Happy to walk through the unredacted version on a call, under a mutual NDA. That tends to be a more useful conversation than this page is.

The treasury platform part-way through an end-of-day reconciliation run, showing positions reconciling against bank statements
  • Banking
  • 9 months
  • Squad of 6

Replacing the treasury core of a Moroccan retail bank.

A fourteen-year-old COBOL core, retired in stages behind an event-sourced platform running in parallel. End-of-day reconciliation went from an overnight job to something the desk watches finish. The constraint throughout was the central bank's reporting schedule, which does not move for anyone.

The Arabic-first mobile app showing a batch record, its journey from mill to shipment, and items queued for sync
  • Agritech
  • 14 months
  • Squad of 4

Batch-level provenance for an olive oil cooperative network.

Provenance recorded on-chain at the point of pressing, captured through an Arabic-first mobile app built for intermittent connectivity. The commercial point was never the ledger. It was meeting the evidence standard EU buyers now ask for before they will open an account.

A single transfer in the settlement console, showing its compliance timeline and the control to unwind it
  • Fintech
  • 6 months
  • Squad of 5

A dirham-pegged settlement rail for cross-border SME payments.

We designed the custody model, the compliance perimeter and the on and off ramps, then shipped v1. The interesting problem was never the transfer. It was proving to a compliance officer that the transfer could be unwound.

Who we are

We started Avolship because we kept being staffed with juniors.

Founded in Marrakech in 2019 by a group of ex-bank, ex-practice and ex-founder operators who had sat on the client side of too many engagements that arrived as a deck and left as a deck.

We stayed small on purpose. A partner leads every engagement and the people who show up are the people you interviewed. There is no pyramid underneath them, which is also why we turn work down more often than we would like to.

The office is in Marrakech. The bench is not. Our consultants are based across Morocco, France, Spain, Belgium and China, and they join an engagement from wherever the work actually needs them.

Plain language is fine. We would rather have the messy version.

We reply to every brief, including the ones we turn down.
